Look Out World!

I now own a laminating machine. Aaaand I've already started putting it to good use. Since we have a long drive ahead of us in a couple days, I am trying to get stuff together to keep Thing 1 occupied. He has slept through the trip in the past, but it's been a year and a half since the last time, and I doubt he'll sleep as long this time. So far I have made a chart with the number 1 through 100, and also made a grid with capital letters in a dashed font and on the back is another grid with the lower-case letters.

I also have a sheet that is nothign more than blank lines, and plan on finding a few other things on the internet to print out that he can do over and over. My mother-in-law gave him a couple books that are dry-erase, so he has markers that will work wonderfully on these "sheets".

I will also finally be able to print out all of the stuff for workboxes so that I can have a good bit of the more tedious work done before we start them. I just need to get hold of some velcro dots. (when I DO get hold of the velcro dots, I will be even MORE dangerous then!)

So Thing 1 will be entertained for the trip and Thing 2 will most likely sleep for most of it. :) Look out Maine, here we come!

Wow

Today is Thing 1's 5th birthday.

It's hard to believe that this is also his 4th birthday being celebrated with Link (2nd thru 5th so far)

We're not a big celebrating family, and we did birthday stuff Sunday at my mother-in-law's house. So today we will be doing a lot of what Thing 1 wants, most likely having pizza for dinner (or lunch, who knows, really?) and hanging out. We may bake cookies or something as a fun thing to do.

It's hard to believe he's 5 already!

Ooooo

I am now on the Workbox Blogroll over at Sunflower Schoolhouse. I have a nifty graphic over thataway --> too.

Honey has lots of brilliant ideas, and I'm sure many of them will be showing up in Thing 1's workboxes.

Other sites that I pull inspiration from (just to name a few that I frequent OFTEN):
1+1+1=1
Confessions of a Homeschooler
Homeschool Creations
What's in the Box?
Home Grown Hearts

There are a lot more, considering I have most of the blogroll either bookmarked or on my list of watched blogs here on Blogger.

Poor Kid Can't Win

Thing 1, for the fourth time in his life has a croupy cough. Head gash and croupy cough. Hopefully we can keep the cough from becoming any worse. Not wanting the spend more time in the hospital.

Boys will be Boys

Thing 1 turns 5 in a couple days and I was quite proud of myself because he's never had stitches and made it nearly 5 years.

Until last night. He was running around at my mother-in-law's house, horsing around with one of my brothers-in-law, and I heard *thunk* and "Oh my god, are you ok?"

Link goes to look and Thing 1 has his hand over his forehead. He was joking around about BIL hurting Thing 1 as I walked over, and BIL convinced Thing 1 to move his hand so he can see.

I hate blood. I also hate hearing about how the gash is wide enough it requires stitches.

Four stitches, 3 days before his 5th birthday. We almost made it 5 full years.

He was a trooper though. He didn't cry, although his eyes did well up at one point. And from what I was told, he was extremely cooperative at the doctor's. I stayed at my mother-in-law's house because I still had Thing 2 to take care of, plus I was in the midst of a panic attack. So my MIL went with Link to the doctor's.

We were over there because this coming weekend we're going out of town to visit MY family. And since we'll be gone for Christmas, plus Thing 1's birthday is Wednesday and mine is Saturday, we had a bit of celebrating to get out of the way :) (plus both of my BIL's birthdays were now too... younger one was yesterday and older one is today)

Thing 1's gash is like an inch to an inch and a half long right in the middle of his forehead at the hairline. They had to shave his widow's peak apparently because the gash went just into it enough that his hair was a problem. And he has a regular appointment this Friday anyway that was scheduled a month and a half ago, so his stitches will probably be coming out then.

Obsessions, or at least pretty darn close!

In the last year I have taken a major interest in a few different topics and enjoy researching the snot out of them. They are homeschooling, babywearing and cloth diapering.

Homeschooling is up there because, well, we plan on the boys (and any potential future children) being homeschooled. So I want to have as much information as humanly possible. I am on the Yahoo! group for the area's homeschoolers, for workboxes, for file-folder games. And also on the BabyCenter group for homeschooling.

For cloth diapering, I am not entirely sure how the idea came into my head, but I do remember Link was more dcided to do cloth before me. The big reasons behind it were that Thing 1 had horrible rashes and also potty trained later than "average". I make my own covers and will be making my own pocket fitteds at some point to use our prefolds as "stuffing" in. I am a part of the BabyCenter cloth diapering group and cloth diaper sewing groups, as well as the Kids in the Garden Yahoo! group.

Babywearing is the latest major one. I didn't get to wear Thing 1 much because he didn't particularly like it, and I didn't have a lot of information. NOW though, I am a part of the babywearing group on BabyCenter and holy cow I have learned a TON in the last few weeks. I made my own mei tai, ring sling, pouch sling, and stretchy wrap (and am making a mei tai for a friend ♥). And Link, for my birthday/Christmas present allowed me to order a beautiful woven wrap from a co-op (discount for ordering through the co-op). I have a couple "tasks" that can earn me another one. Everytime I turn around, someone on the board is showing off another wrap that is OMG GORGEOUS. So far though, my biggest loves have been Girasol Mojito (this is the one that will be here in February!), Hoppediz Montreal, Osaka and Timbuktu, and Neobulle Arthur. They're pretty! (and all different colors too!)

I find all of these to be very important for our household, and so Link isn't toooo upset with my researching. I'm sure he's just hoping I don't find something ELSE to be like this with :)
